Thanks for the plug, Ulrichsd, but I believe that Mattan is in PAL country. So far, I have not figured out a way to accomodate PAL transfers. (working on it, though!)

Do you think i can produce a film with super8, i mean the whole thing...
that takes about 2 hours of recording...do you think this it too much :?:

Thanks,

Attention PAL users!

If you like my samples (lapset.mpg etc.), just check the next text:

I offer you a basic 8 mm (regular 8, super 8 and single 8 ) to mini-dv transfer for 10 Euro per 15 meter roll or 3 Euro per minute including also speed changing (if you shoot 18 fps or have old 16 fps regular 8 films) with Canopus speed controller.

Here is one sample, I have changed the speed down (28%), the film is original shot by using 18 fps and now movements are normal also with Pal (25 fps) standard.

I can also make frame fixing (frame by frame using photoshop), color correction (With Canopus Video Doctor) etc. other special works for older films, just ask more details from me.

I'm just working with one old regular 8mm film with lot of scratchs etc. and I'll put sample of it to the net, when I have completed that project.

here is one picture with basic frame fixed and without of it:

If you have super 8 films with sound, I'll start to make also soundfilm stransfer very soon, including both: 1 and 2 channel (stereo) sound films.

Hey jukkasil,
thanks for publishing your europe users pricing...
i just found out that no1 sells super8 film in israel :(
and now the whole 8mm dream looks like illusion...
i mean i can still buy a camera, but every time i'll want to shoot something i will need to order film from america, that will cost lots of money. can i buy that from europe too?

Thanks again, and bring good news

Of course, for example here in Finland we can still buy K40 from almost every city from store called "Anttila"!

Well, I think the best way for you would be to order films from Germany, because they have cheapest prices in the Europe.

Our super 8 group from Finland from http://www.digivideo.org site bought about month ago from Kahl, Germany 100 pcs. K40 at price 10.98 Euro (about 11 USD) per 15 meter roll. In Finland normal price for one roll is 16.8 Euro.

Here are two net addresses from Germany:

Do you have videos on the internet which had been transfered this way?

Thanks,

OK, I have now one example (in wmv-file) I shot with mini-dv using screen and projector one year ago.

http://www.sorb-i-tol.com/sagawalk.wmv

If you compare it to my WP-3 transfer examples, the difference is really huge. The mini-dv camera is the same in both cases, but with WP the picture quality is much better.

Perhaps I'd scan also this same film with WP and make a comparison mpg-file of both cases.

After a 15 minute wait the 23 seconds of workprinter film down loaded. It is definitely better than my efforts with a hi-8 camcorder and screen.

So I played around with it to see how it looked in other formats, and except for the 88k 176 x 144 .wmv (from 3705 k 320 x 240 .mpg) it help up reasonably well. Even though I had to convert the mpeg to .avi and add a sound track the initial reduction in quality was virtually impossible to see, at least on my monitor.

What I was interest to see was the .wmv file, not excessively compressed through a digital camera off the screen. Now it seems that the quality difference with my Hi-8 set up was minimal. I must say I expected it to be much better. I connect the camera directly to the computer so the video card carries out the analogue digital conversion. Usually to .avi either uncompressed, or compressed with Indeo. The latter produces more compact files without any real quality difference from the uncompressed.

The conclusion is, if you can afford a workprinter, get one, but check out the camera to use with it carefully.

For those who want to see a site with some S8 footage, try my site:

http://www.angelfire.com/indie/tfunch24/index.html

There's only one clip on it right now, but I'm going to add more clips when I get home from vacation later this week and get my Video Cinemate 20 set up and running.
