bolex exposure?

Post by milesandjules »

Just bought a cool variometer for our bolex h8. …..it does long exposures and time-lapse…..

Image

Just looking down the lens mount at the shutter…..i'm not sure if this is working correctly?…..is there always a screen covering the film during the exposure? I have never looked at the gate while the bolex is exposing before….i thought it would have been a clear pathway to the film. here is a vid of a 4second exposure….. to show what i mean …does this look correct?

cheers miles

oh ok…I took motor off then then put it back on and now it looks fine the shutter is closed when its not exposing…..must have been the position of the connecting shaft or something…..have to check that before shooting stuff 8O .

Also one more question….anyone know how to reset the frame counter on this machine :D ?

and ere is a little vid showing it all working.

Normally, to reset the counter, I would think you just press the black button under the counter window.

Hi Jean Louis
Yeah tried that but its either fused shut or there is another trick to it….i thought it may need to be in a certain mode or something.

Wow! Where in hell did you score such gorgeous third party Bolex equipment? Regarding your first question Wild seemed to have implemented an electronic capping shutter as used in in animation cameras.

Hi Nicholas
Grabbed this off gum tree here in oz for $150 the previous owner said he bought it for $4k back in the day. Im not surprised as it is heavy and is built like a tank ….and the internal switches sound like big chunky relays…so hopefully it lasts…only thing that seems broken is the reset button on the frame counter.

Seems like you can plug another machine into this called a converter(cause there are employ sockets lab led converter on the back)….maybe it a component that inverts battery to ac….anyone know?

Its bolex brand made in swizerand…. but I don't see it mentioned on bolex collector.com.

Yeah i was wondering about a capping shutter….I was hoping that it won't need one. I guess some long exposure testing in the shed is required :D
