It could do with a deshaker or something like that.
Nice images though with 2nd and 3rd contact covered decently.
I shot the Turkey Alanya eclipse of 2006 on K40 in Super-8.
On a hill top near an ancient circus. Barely ten people there. Along with two young sheperd.
The super-8 frame is too small to capture all details of the event. As the exposure time is fixed one needs a ND-filter to bring the exposure value within range. Because of the enormous range of the corona only part of it would expose properly as the aperture would be stuck at F16
Curious how there in the clip is hardly one of the people with overweight
as today on that location there will hardly anyone who isn't...
Mexicans outweigh yankees.
Has anyone tested Retro-8 from MovieStuff yet?

Well, any instability in the image is built into the film image, that I can assure you.aj wrote:It could do with a deshaker or something like that.

actually Cristoph a formerly active member of this board - once treated one of my very unstable DIY clips (shot off screen) with his special procedure or formula which seemed to overcome that without loosing frame area or sharpness or information - on the contrary. he used a feed forward feed back complementary procedure as far as I remember.
here are two upgraded samples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQv9nkMcOEI (0:10-0:15 on tripod the rest hand held)
the originals were very unstable due to a very worn cam gate and lack of cam lube / service (a very heavily used Cano 1014 xls)
ill try to find the original for your reference.

I'm glad you liked my little Mexico Eclipse videoMovieStuff wrote:This just showed up on YouTube. Kinda neat.

That transfer was done with the Retro-8 software with all the default color settings, with Enhance checked.

If you use the gamma/brightness slider, you can bring out more detail in the black areas. But, even as it is, I love the look of it. Very sharp.memoriesrenewed wrote:I'm glad you liked my little Mexico Eclipse videoMovieStuff wrote:This just showed up on YouTube. Kinda neat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCyF5ksC ... ata_playerI bought some films off Ebay about a year ago and a couple of reels of the eclipse happened to be in there.

Just popping back in to post my review. Sorry it has taken so long...been a very busy couple of months between work and then all these home projects. I had about 8,000 ft. of family film. I had previously transferred some of it with a GOKO 301. I had thought the 301 did a great job, but now comparing it to the Retro-8, I can see how soft it was! The clarity of the Retro-8 scans is really fantastic, as is the uniform brightness...no hot spots! I am very pleased with the results. It is time consuming, especially on the exports, but the end result is worth it. I can now share all this film with relatives around the globe. Also wanted to thank Roger for helping us configure our unit...it needed a couple tweaks to get it up and running properly but has been smooth sailing ever since.

And here is a side by side comparison of my transfers with the GOKO 301 and the Retro 8. Pretty dramatic!

The Goko 301 machine is a joke. Horrible results. Same goes for many of the similare machines.

Unfortunately the old, poor quality VHS transfers of S8 are what most people associate with the look of S8. The Retro8 sample looks great, but still a lot of info there to make it look even better.Andreas Wideroe wrote:The Goko 301 machine is a joke. Horrible results.
