"Digital Bolex" doesn't even make sense. It's like saying "digital vinyl records". Here's yet another analogy: I'm sure there are synthesizer patches that produce a Mighty Wurlitzer sound, any maybe to many they seem really accurate, but *no one* would confuse the machine itself with an actual Mighty Wurlitzer, nor claim that it's the same experience to play or see it played.

Search as I might I find no other reference to Bolex and digital imaging than the project under discussion. Cannot say the same for those other great names Rollie and Minox though!!!!!!!jpolzfuss wrote:Yes, this might be logical step. Unfortunately Bolex can't do this any more after giving that US-Canadian-company a license for putting a Bolex-sticker onto their Chinese cameras...wahiba wrote:Bolex are/were in the business of making making machines to record the moving image so it looks a logical progression to move onto camcorders.

Re: Digital Bolex
So how does the digital Bolex differ from any other video camera in the same price range?

It has got a "Rolex"-sticker on it...Tommy wrote:So how does the digital Bolex differ from any other video camera in the same price range?
...or was it "Lolex"/"Bolex"/...?
...and of course it's sensor is only "super16mm-sized" so that you've got this large depth of field so that you'll still have to use a depth-of-field adapter
This space was left intenionally blank.

Re: Digital Bolex
General feedback seems to be the built-in screen is completely useless other than for menus (see Philip Bloom). External viewfinder/monitor is a requirement for decent focus.

[*] Smaller sensor, Kodak 1" CCD: 12.85mm x 9.64mmTommy wrote:So how does the digital Bolex differ from any other video camera in the same price range?
[*] C-Mount so all those old lenses you have laying around for Kodak K-100 or Bolex will work, PL & EF mounts available for more $
[*] Currently ASA 400 max, soon will be 800 with software update
[*] Adobe CinemaDNG Raw, 12 bit 4:4:4
After working with the Black Magic Cinema Camera on a big three camera shoot, I'd be very careful to make sure this camera makes sense for you. I think it would be great if you are a indie filmmaker and come from film and are used to the giant file sizes and major post processing that's involved. If you're shooting talking heads, not the camera for you.
Re: Digital Bolex
I have seen a sample take (DNG) on a grade1 monitor.
There was not much to do on the color grading with the sample file (provided by Digital Bolex).
Image quality wise (dynamic range, skin tones etc), the quality was really low-end.
I think they still have to improve a lot their camera.
But of course they will never meet the quality that is possible
with a Bolex film camera shooting film stock, like for example any Vision3 stock.
I posted some weeks ago on their website my comments about the provided DNG sample, but the post was deleted.
