How to remove the winding crank of bolex h16 h8

Post by kontrabass888 »

I just got a old bolex h8, it's winding crank is broken, I have an other broken h16 body, but the wind crank is OK.
So I would like to switch the wind crank of broken H16 onto the h8 body.
Anyone knows how to remove and mount the wind crank?

The winding cranks are interchangeable between an H8 and h16. The crank can be removed by engaging the crank as if to wind the camera, but turn the crank in the opposite direction, i.e. clockwise, it is a left hand thread. You will have to apply some amount of force, again, in a clockwise direction, to get it to unscrew. Attach the new crank by threading it on in a counterclockwise direction. Be careful not to cross-thread it when attaching the new crank.

Post some photos of the broken crank if you can.

To wind up the camera, rotate crank anti-clockwise as in this video

To dismount the crank, rotate it clockwise - it will unthread and detach from the camera. To remount the crank, insert back into thread and wind anti-clockwise.

Thanks for reply, here are pics of the broken winding crank of H8 and the crank of H16 which I would like to replace the broken crank.
One more question, when I wind it clockwise to unthread the crank, do I need lock up the motor?

Ok - you just need to grip that uprise on the circular disk - you'll need a spanner to get some leverage - and rotate it clockwise. That will unthread it. Should fall out after a few turns.

With the H16, you just need to wind the crank in the opposite way to the way that guy in the video is winding his H16 - as he is winding the camera up (anti-clockwise) - but you want to remove the crank from the camera so you wind it clockwise instead.

And then to put it on the 8mm you put it into the thread hole and turn it anti-clockwise. It eventually completes threading into place and engages the spring and continued winding in the same direction winds the camera up.
