Changing drive belt in Eumig 605D projector

Post by filmforfun »

The drive belt in my Eumigh 605 D projector broke. I have searched for specific information on how to replace it with a new one(that I can buy on eBay). Getting access seems virtually impossible but there must be an easy solution. One instruction page I found simple says to change it. Any help would be appreciated. 8O Al

There is a form of 'universal' belt available in lengths that are cut as required. To make a belt you need a soldering iron with a flat blade. Cut the length required, heat each end on blade, push together and all being well it will work. Takes a bit of practise but I managed to get a small lathe running using this technique so when right it is pretty strong.

Not always easy to find. if I remember I bough mine in the UK from RS which while being 'industrial' does actually sell to anyone who pays! Worth doing a search, try 'make your own drive belts' or similar.

On the lathe it replaced a small Vee belt. Not sure about the Eumig; have not used mine for ages so might be needing to try myself.

Good luck.

Thanks for your detailed reply. Actually, these drive belts are available on eBay. You can search for them there. Here is a source in the UK: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EUMIG-605D-8mm- ... 5d3375bca7

My question is how to install the belt once I get it. Access to the inside is very difficult. I have practiced with a rubber band and just can't get it around the wheels. There must be a simple trick to it.

Looking at the design of some projectors... you get the impression that how the belt was to be eventually replaced, just was taken into
account in the original blue print.

After buying a belt and successfully installing it I will answer my own question for those who look at this thread in the future. Below you will find alink to Eumig 605D manual and my instructions on how to install a drive belt using the manual's text as a starting point.

http://www.apecity.com/manuals/pdf/eumi ... manual.pdf

Augmented instructions from the manual on how t install a new drive belt.

First set the slow-motion knob for 18 fps, move the function switch to the "0" (off) position, and unplug the power cord (mains lead).

Remove back cover and lamp housing.

Remove the worn drive belt and place the new belt in the pulley grooves corresponding to your line (mains) frequency: Pulley grooves closest to the projecting end for 60 Hz, Pulley grooves closest to the back of the projector where the power cord plugs in for 50 Hz. Placing the belt in these grooves can be difficult. Start with the projector facing down and you working in the lamp assembly area guide the belt with your fingers to the proper groove on the large drive. Then from the other side of the projector and using a paper clip with a hook on the end, grab the belt and hook it on the small wheel.

Replace lamp housing and back cover.

Good luck.
