Might be of interest to some or none but Seattle's late great Alphacine is holding an auction tomorrow:

Amongst the photos is the ViewMaster mounting machine that was an important part of their business as motion picture production declines. I wonder who else can make ViewMaster reels and how long that will last in this market?

I hope that stuff finds a good home rather than the scrap bin. I do make my own View-master reels but not with a machine like that 8O .

They're selling everything down to the coffee maker. but I dont see their film scanner or ultrasonic film cleaner listed.

The optical printer apparently had been stripped of many useful parts like film gates. So someone picked over their equipment for a possible digital film service. Maybe Lightpress bought their film cleaner? Their main business is archival work and a the lack of local film cleaning would be problematic for them.
An artist film group bought a few of those other machines so they didn't all go to the scrap heap!

Woods - do you happen to know which group it was that bought the other machines? Local, inquiring minds want to know!woods01 wrote:The optical printer apparently had been stripped of many useful parts like film gates. Grainy, these guys bought the optical printer and contact printer: http://processreversal.org/
However I believe they are shipping the stuff to upper New York state where they have a workspace/barn.

Ah, too bad http://processreversal.org/ is in NY -- it looks like they've got a very cool mission, we'd love to have them here in Seattle.
