damaged LEICINA 8mm battery holder

Post by john59 »

I have chance of buying the above camera, but as stated the battery compartment is damaged, (corrosion )
A long shot here , but could it be fixed? and if not, how would it be overcome?

Hiya, I'm pretty sure i have one or two battery holders in me toybox at work. My leicina 8s expired with the end of kodachrome in 2010. Make sure, if you can, the lightmeter battery compartment is clean, people tend to leave the 1.35v cell inside and they rot too. Also if you purchase the camera you really need to use a 1.35 wein cell to avoid damaging the lightmeter with a 1.5v battery. Weather permitting I'll check Monday if I've the bettery boxes at work, your welcome to them for nothing. Aww, one more thing, best to use cheap 'ever ready' batteries, these are slimmer than duracel batts and thus dont split the eggshell thin batt box on the leicina. Think these are the batts that fit the leicina batt box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EVER-READY-BA ... 1c2ee10b95

You can dissolve battery leakage on the electrical contacts of the battery container by soaking in alcohol vinegar and then sanded to remove any metal oxide traces.

Many thanks for the advice chaps. I decided in the end not to get the camera but im still looking for a decent standard 8 camera, without going silly on the budget, what would be a decent wind up std 8 machine? I have at the moment a Quartz 5, its in great condition though i have not shot a roll through it yet, I have ran an old Kodachrome 40 through it, it came in the camera when I bought it and its great for practice when turning the film over and it pulls the film through fine.I'm looking for something simple to use that wont have to have the small battery for the light meter.
Many thanks in advance.

Hello. I have just got hold of a Leicina standard 8 and realised that I am missing the battery holder. i wonder if KII still has those battery holders mentioned above and if they are available? I have just joined and guess I'm not allowed to contact users directly yet. Thanks

Do you still have one or two battery holders for the Leicina camera? If so, how can I buy from you? Many thanks, A
