VNF circa 2002 ish needs processing, 100' from Bolex H8

Post by thebrowniecameraguy »

Hey everyone! Haven't posted in years (thank you higher education) but still alive and kicking!

I've shot a few things over the past five or six years, most recently a small shoot for a fashion merchandiser to be used to sell some clothing. It had been so long that I actually forgot about some shadowing and over/under exposure issues- welp it was a reminder, indeed. Still all amateur here.

Anywho- as the title said, I've got a 100' double 8mm roll of VNF I shot at Christmas back in 2002 or so, perhaps before.

Now back in the day, if I can say that at 29, I had run some 25' reels of VNF in my own small tank and had some alright results- the blues were always over exaggerated but it's VNF, no surprise. Somehow I always managed to forget to filter to compensate, again hobbyist, perfection not always on my mind...

I do not have the capacity to run a 100' foot load and don't even know if I can buy a reversal kit anymore, I don't want to look in case I'm disappointed.

What are the changes that may have occurred to the images? I'm not worried about exposure and mechanical issues as I used warm indoor lamps and a Bolex H8.

Who and where to send?

UPDATE: Unfogging the memories, D'Waynes processed some of my VNF in E6 chemicals and the kit I used last was for E6. So Really I'm just worried about the shifts in color over the years.

Cheers,
Jordan

E6 works for processing VNF. If the film was not frozen, there may be no images or a lot of age fog. If I recall correctly, and there is no guarantee I do, the color will shift to a washed out blue.

About 2 years ago Niagara Custom Lab processed some VNF for me that was given to me about 800' of 16mm. As I recall I had a low speed and a high speed stock. The 400 asa was grainy and fogged but the other turned out very good. If you're digitizing the film then you've got lots of options to improve the colour. Maybe get the film pushed a stop?

This might be of help to you!

Here is some VNF (Super8) that I shot in 2003 which then sat in a cupboard for 9 years until I got it processed in modified E6 chemicals last year (2012) - here are the results :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkx26zv0q9U&hd=1
