Exposing Vision 3 50D in various cameras

Post by supa8 »

Hi
I am confused about the conflicting info I have heard regarding exposing Vision 50D.
1- Am I correct in assuming that in most cameras (25/40_100/160asa cameras), I should leave the filter switch to the bulb setting?
That way, the 50D stock (which doesn't require any filter for daylight as it is balanced that way) will be exposed at 40asa, perfect for negative film to be slightly overexposed (with no filter pin sticking out, that the cartridge would otherwise push in, in case I set the filter switch to the sun position).

2- For the Bauer range, there is generally no daylight filter pin, so just leave it on the bulb switch and shoot at 40asa

3- For High end Nizo and Canons, it would probably be similar to point 1-, except that some may even expose it as 50asa, when they have a more advanced notching system.

Please advise. I think it would be great for the community to have clear indications on this.
Maybe there is a wiki page but I haven't come across any.
Thanks

from old postages...

the answers are within this info. there is a 50D PRO8mm cart low down in the image. The Kodak should be notched likewise. this is how it should be notched and work with most cams.
S8 Booster wrote:an old friend from the past. This 50D from pro8mm is notched 64T minus filter notch = 40D.
compare to the K40,

"The X dimension is from the CENTER of the locating slot to the BOTTOM of the film-speed slot."

The answers are:
  • There's no notch for 50 ASA in the Super8-standard, hence the cart is notched as 40D. But that's "close enough" and wouldn't cause any problems.
  • Most cameras should check the "is the film balanced for tungsten or daylight"-notch. Hence they should automatically disable their internal filter once you've entered a V3 50D. However it wouldn't hurt to manually disable the internal filter (e.g. by setting the filter-switch to "bulb" or using a filter-key or ...) in case the automatism doesn't work any more or in case there never was such an automatism (as for some Bauer cameras).
(Of course this is only true for cameras that do have an internal filter and an integrated light-meter that allows no manual setting of the wanted ASA.)

The notch is the same as 64T but with no filter notch.

So this is all pretty confusing now.
Some people are saying it is notched as 40asa, some as 64, like the 64T.
I am not talking about Velvia, or Pro8mm stocks, just Kodak Vision 50D.
What is it notched as exactly? This is important for the higher-end Canon & Nizo cameras for instance that can recognize 64asa notches
Thanks

Email Kodak directly to ask what is Kodak Vision 50 notched as exactly.

There's no difference between 40D and "64T with no filter notch"!!!!
