Bauer vs. Chinon Pacific?

Post by undermind »

Sorry I know these camera vs. camera things are kind of cheesy.

I'm new to the Super8 world, and I'm looking for a good first camera. I've been impressed with footage I've seen from Bauer cameras (the 709 XL in particular) but haven't seen any footage from Chinon.

The 2 cameras in particular I'm considering is the S 209 XL and the Chinon Pacific 200/8 XL.

I'm basically looking for picture quality. And can anyone comment whether the Chinon's Lap Dissolve can be done with silent carts?

Thanks so much, and sorry about another "vs." thread!

Hi,
I´ve a Chinon 60 SMR XL Sound Pacific S8 camera, and a friend of mine got a Chinon 200 XL. Both cameras are very similar (XL), practically there´s no difference between both cameras in image quality.

My Chinon 60 XL have a 1:1,2 -8-48mm lens and the shutter angle is 220º
The Chinon 200 XL have a 1:1,4 - 7-56mm lens and the shutter angle is the same.

If you wanna check some images filmed with my camera, see the image gallery of this page in the section Film Frames - Another stocks- Kahl Film stocks:

Or check my personal Photo album:

(Except the 1970´s frames)

Hope this helps,

Carlos
