Interesting test that Tommy at Video Film Solutions published about using Kodak 5234 B&W intermediate lab stock outdoors since Double-X has an ASA of 250 outside. This intermediate B&W stock would have an ASA of about 18, but on a bright summer day it could be a great alternative, sharper and a little cheaper too. It's available in 35mm and 16mm from Kodak.
There are a bunch of interesting articles on his site now so I suggest checking them out. He's a brilliant tinkerer and was raised around film processing. Rates for processing and transfer are amazing by the way and the quality if top notch.
Thanks for posting Will. Very interesting company and projects indeed. Have a look at their inhouse built scanners. There's a lot of potential if you know your electronics and coding.
And by the way, the filmstock (5234) looks excellent. We've discussed using a similare filmstock here to do some resolution tests a couple of years back. We never did it, but here you see how great they can look.

It would be worthwhile to have the 16mm version reperfed.
I find myself shooting 16 outside on sunny days all the time so I like the idea too. When you say reperfed, do you mean for regular 8? There's a 7234 ready to go for 16mm cameras already. Probably comes on 2000 foot rolls but easy to spool it down to 100' or 400' loads.
*edit: Oh, I see; you mean for the converted Bolexes...makes sense. Great summer stock.
