AGFA large quantity discount
I wonder if other people on this board have noticed this yet:
Wittner is offering Agfa 200D 16mm stock in large quantities with a very good discount. Take a look:
A package of 732 meters: 499,00 €
and when buying more than one package of 732 meters:
3 packages à469,00 €
5 packages à419,00 €
10 packages à379,00 €
20 packages à329,00 € = 0,44 Euros per meter
I think color reversal doesn't get cheaper than this.
At the moment there is a joint order being organized on http://filmvorfuehrer.de
We are currently at 5½. If interested, contact Michael1 here: http://www.filmvorfuehrer.de/topic/1722 ... hrome-200/

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
When were these emulsions cast?
The boxes are with old AGFA logo (trapezium thingy) which means they are from original AGFA pre bankruptcy production. Likely the wide rolls are over 10 years old. Near Euro 500 ex tax for two of these rolls in one can seems like a lot to me. I.e. 1000 DM without processing for how many minutes?
No wonder they want Euro 25 for one S8 cartridge.

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
The film is freshly coated. It is from Agfa in Belgium. I believe a different commercial entity to the one that went bankrupt. This is film stock designed for aerial photography, which was its own, and a surviving, Agfa business entity. Agfa are slitting and perforating this stock (except in S8 and R8). They are able to supply perforated and unperforated 16mm and 35mm. But you have to buy an entire master roll worth. this is aproximately 120 to 128 x 1200' rolls. That's quite a lot (!) Wittner are in a position to buy this quantity (a number of times over I figure as they have acquired perforated 16, perforated 35 and unperforated 35 (for making into super 8). They then are having to spool down these large rolls onto cores or daylight spools, provide the spools, and provide other packaging.
I run Nano Lab - Australia's super8 ektachrome processing service

Try to read the shown label on the can. I notice there is a production or expiry date on it...
Now if photo were a bit more detailed
If it is fresh maybe the collective small S8 labs ought to try and see if they can buy such a master roll and have it split and perforated into S8. It could work to get an affordable supply but it may prove there are so many costs that it still ends near Euro 25.

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
André, no need to split and perforate to get cheaper super-8 200D, it's already available from Wittner: 72.5 meters for 49.90 EUR http://wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/0 ... _meter.php
That's only 0,69 EUR / meter or for 15 meters 10,34 EUR. You just have to use refillable cartridges.
But really, this is fresh stock by Agfa-Gaevart, not AgfaPhoto. Two different companies: Agfa-Gaevart produces film for commercial uses (Aviphot Chrome 200D is aerial film!) and is alive; AgfaPhoto produced film for consumers and is dead and gone. Take a look: http://www.agfa.com/sp/global/en/intern ... /index.jsp

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
I hadn't checked these meterware pages for some time. Too disappointed about the disappearence of too many DS8 materials
Slide material for Aerial photography? Military or what? I thought air-reconnaissance was done with BW negative with a higher IR factor to penetrate fog. If it isn't digitally yet. The interpreters read/view from the negative after quick processing.
And this is still being newly manufactered? If they are clever they might jump on the niche of abandoned slide photographers and manufacturer 135 cartridges or at least long rolls of 35mm in cans.
Is this material thinner? As it is polyester. Would this 72.5 meter fit 60 meter spools or 4 pcs 15 meter cartridges? Might be interesting to use in Single-8 then.

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
Well, they are not in the consumer business and probably don't want to go there. Others like Wittner will do that business instead for them, they are after all offering this film in 30,5m 35mm rolls for still photographers and according to some discussions on APUG they might bring it available in 135 cartridges as well.
As for doing business directly with AGFA, you'd have to buy in very large quantities. They do have 16mm available as well, but the minimum order is something like 70 x 736 meters. That's where Wittner is once again helping -- they sell the same stuff for almost same discount, but you don't have to buy 70 rolls. Those discounted prices can be found in the first post of this thread.

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
It's somewhat thinner and it has been reported to run very steady in S-8 and work even in some super-8 cameras thought to be dead (= not strong enough to run normal film anymore) but it's not as thin as Fuji polyester stocks were. Wittner for example sells this in 16mm on 30,5m daylight spools with 33.3 meters.aj wrote:Is this material thinner? As it is polyester. Re: AGFA large quantity discount
Wittner's latest discount:
Buy 30 packages, pay only 299 € per package.
Not bad. Cheaper to buy 16mm color reversal than super-8 even if one bought only one package (499 € -- 30.5 meters would then be 20.79 €).
Not to mention this latest discount: 30.5 meters of 16mm would cost only 12.45 €!

Re: AGFA large quantity discount
Seems they promised to relieve Agfa of their stock.
If there were a little machine to cut 16mm into 8mm and perf it in S8.
Unfortunenately it is poly-ester which is a bit hard to perforate. It wears out the punch and die quick.
Otherwise mr Nowill could stamp R8 from it and R8 filming would become dirt cheap
