Kodak sell off, keeps MP going

Post by Tscan »

S8 is still safe in the MP line, parts of Kodak sold to a yet to be named company that will supposedly keep it going under the Kodak name.

So, Kodak is pestered by its own UK pension plan? I.e. people who used to work with Kodak are bringing Kodak to court to force/squeeze out millions and millions. To hell with the guys working there now and with their future? Some mechanics at work there. Shareholders got hold of the earlier money needed for the deposits?
Kind regards,

André

In fact quite many people working in those divisions see this as a step forward. Marketing might get energized etc. Kodak still films are part of this deal. Kodak continues to manufacture the film for this new company, but the company will be the one to sell it under the name Kodak.

Why would this new company at executive level be interested in selling film? Wouldn't it be better from their viewpoint to try and get more value or cash by selling off the assets used to produce film after 2015 when Kodak's contract with the Hollywood majors ends?

If we want to see Kodak film continue to be produced we should contact this company and find out what their intentions are. Is it a case of Kodak offloading assets they don't want to hold onto?

I think we all have to start becoming corporate activists and let this company know what sort of asset they have bought. I hope I am just being pessimistic and that this new broom is just what Kodak film needs and its now out of the hands of execs at Kodak who didn't know how to make it successful or didn't care.

Kodak also expects the deal will enable Kodak's film business to strive. "The members of the KPP are both former and current Kodak employees, and so under their ownership, we have their commitment to the legacy and history of Kodak," says Quatela. "We have a financially stable owner that is very much committed to investing in our success."

Quatela adds that the new company has no plans to discontinue any of Kodak's film and paper products. "We're continuing in a normal manner. These two businesses are actually quite strong. They have been performing really well. They generate $1.4bn in revenues. It's a revenue stream that KPP can rely on in the future."

Well Hell! If they are going to focus on motion picture film then they should commit themselves all the way and make all formats available ! Hint: Regular 8mm.

I believe Kodak is selling the consumer films and papers not the motion picture division. The motion picture division will stay with the old Kodak. As far as this forum is concerned it is the same old Kodak. Sorry no regular 8, DS8, color reversal or any other odd film format.

Yes, Kodak is basically downsizing to just a motion picture business. And they did mention 16mm and super 8 in solidarity with their motion picture line. I wouldn't hold my breath for DS8 or R8 to come back... but if R&D is still being invested in their product, it would be nice to see a more exotic looking stock come someday.
