Okay, Wittner has the price up for Wittnerchrome 200D in cartridges.
And.. well, to be honest I feel somewhat let down. I mean, if 72½ meters of this film costs 49,90 euros, how come one cartridge of about 16 meters length costs 22,90 €? Is the work involved really that high? The price per meter for bulk S-8 is 0,69 € and --- for cartridge -- 1,43 €.
I guess I better buy some refillable cartridges.

It's hard to make money in the film business these days. I'm sure they are simply covering their costs with enough profit to keep doing it. We just have to get used to higher prices to continue using film.

The costs for producing such a new product include a seperate costly perforating machine for the AGFA PE-film, the costs for the cartridges and to make them ready for a flawless function.
Although the film itself is relatively cheap, the several processes to make a cartridge that performs at high standards make it pricy.
I think I'll go for the bulk too... Which are the best refillable cartridges?

are years by now that i use only reloadable Kaccema cartridges, and i am very satisfied: more stable images and cost savings. Bulk orders, home processing, home telecine are the way to go if we want save money and keep S8 alive

Go for the Kaccemas for refillable cartridges: Lube them very well, use the plastic circle in the center of the film (most of them have lost) available at Wittner, and NEVER fill them with more tan 10-12 m, as the original Sovietic reloadings.eightmm wrote:The costs for producing such a new product include a seperate costly perforating machine for the AGFA PE-film, the costs for the cartridges and to make them ready for a flawless function.

We don't really know how many there were for sale in the first place. Maybe 50? 100? 200? According to some quote from Wittner, all of these are hand work so that might explain why they were sold out so soon.
