Trick to spread motor brushes when assembling?

Post by slashmaster »

I took my non running argus 802 apart to see what was wrong. The ground wire for the motor was heavily corroded even inside the motor where it was connected to one of the brushes. While messing with it, the wire came out at the brush so I took off the motors cover. Soldering another wire on shouldn't be a problem but how do I temporarley spread the brushes apart so I can put the cover back on?..

Sometimes you can tilt the cover assembly to open one brush against the commutator and then shuffle/tilt the other way to spread the other brush. Sometimes the brushes are forced closed by grub screws which you can loosen then tighten again. Sometimes you have to use fine tweezers from an angle to open them up. I'm not familiar with that camera, so I don't know how the motor looks, but there should be a way.
