I have just been given a Yashica Model-1 8mm camera. I have a couple of super 8 cameras, but have had no dealings in this format whatsoever. Does anyone have any information on this camera? I would love to run a film through it. What batteries does it take?
Thanks
Matt

I'm not familiar with that specific model but are you sure it takes batteries. If it's an early 8mm model it may not have an internal light meter and runs on a windup clockwork motor. Many of the early 8mm cameras required a handheld light meter with manual adjustment of the f-stop on the lens. I use a light meter app with my iphone. Many different makes of 8mm cameras are quite similar in their operation. A picture of the camera may help answer some of your questions.

Thanks for the reply. There is a battery compartment on the camera which looks like it would take some kind of coin/button cell. There is a winder on the camera, which operates the shutter/spool reel.

It may take a PX-13 battery, you can get a wein air cell replacement. Just like many Super 8 cameras if the automatic exposure doesn't work you will need to have a manual option to use it. Does that camera have a manual iris control? I can't tell from the picture but I don't see anything on the lens.

No unfortunately, the camera doesn't seem to have any manual exposure control. So it's get a battery and see.
