Hi,
Is there any lab that can do super 8 reversal blowup to 16mm reversal beside Andec ? I have Andec quote, and will go with them, unless there is something better/cheaper. I know that the lab would probably need to produce a negative 16mm intermediate, I guess it's the only way to do it nowadays.
Any information is welcome.
Thank you.

AFAIK Niagara Custom Labs in Toronto can do super8 to 16mm...

Unless you're interested in heavy contrast and have a private stash of 100D there is no way you can get a blowup to reversal film. In the old days there was a variety of special stocks to go positive to positive but I think that stopped in the 80s.
NCL can also print a digital file to 16mm film if you've edited it digitally. You could also try to look up John Kneller in Toronto. A few years ago a friend got him to to blow up some 8mm he had shot for a 35mm project. Kneller owns his own gear and might likely be the guy who does the opticals for NCL. I can't see it being much more than a hobbyist business these days.
Bill Brand is popular for blow ups with the art crowd: http://www.bboptics.com/bboptics.html
Also try googling "optical printing" or "optical printer" you might find more results or a place where you could rent a printer and do it yourself.

Thanks for the replies.
I asked Niagara Custom Lab by email a few weeks ago but never got any answers. I think I will call them instead.
I will also contact Studiogamma and BBoptics and wait for their quotes before I decide.
Obviously if anybody have first hand experience with either Andec, Studiogamma, NCL or BBoptics relative to super 8 blowup I would be happy to hear it. No need to say that I am looking for the best end results, even if the price of the best lab is a little higher that the others.
I think I understand now that, to get a good result, the process needs to go through an intermediate negative. In fact I am happy about this as I would be able to get more prints in the future if needed.
But yes I do have my private stash of 100D in the freezer

Since you are in Montreal you might want to contact Double Negative Collective. They are an art film group who has all sorts of analog gear like JK printers and contact printers. One of their members might be interested in doing the job for you.
