Texas State Fair Winner

Post by Will2 »

The Texas State Fair, which is a pretty big deal down here in Texas, has multiple arts & crafts awards each year. I stumbled on this winner for "Hobby Collections."

Back in 1963, any movies that were sent in for processing received a little notice back with their film that if any of the footage was of President Kennedy's motorcade in Dallas to contact the FBI immediately. I'm not sure of the story on this particular film, it may have just been of another parade from 1963, but it definitely captured a moment of time with that notice.

Call me "Will" we're all friends here. :D

My guess is that the film is just a random parade from the same year, and that someone had the foresight to mount it with the note the same year or close after. The frame and mounting job looks like it was from the same general time period.

If people hadn't been so trusting of the Government back then and defied such warnings, we would probably know exactly where the bullets came from!

The clever thing to do from a research point of view. Even then there must have been 10.000s of films exposed every week and sent for processing. Apparently nobody thought it possible to view all films coming by :)

It should be something if a 16mm (like on the panel) showed up now. Exposed with a top camera from a tripod. Just opposed to the motorcade and the bookhouse. Showing Oswald in the distance with his rifle putting his sandwich aside and kneeling down.

A bit like the Challenger shuttle launch on a piece of not so good quality super-8 Ektachrome with sound. Only made public after 20 plus years.
Kind regards,

André
