Film cleaning cloth

I'm currently using filmguard and a kinetronics microfibre lens cloth to clean my 8mm films before transferring, but it's getting very frustrating as it leaves fibres on the film. I haven't been able to get anywhere near a 'hair-free' transfer.

Am I using the wrong cloth, and can anyone recommend a cloth that doesn't do this? I'm not looking for advice on different film cleaners; I know filmguard isn't designed to be applied by a cloth but it's what I have. The cleaning results are good if it wasn't for the hairs that get through.

I cut up an old T-shirt ( 100% Cotton) for cleaning with Filmrenew. I've read that gun cleaning cloth work good as well. I think that's what they repackage and sell as film cleaning cloth.

Thanks a lot, I found an old 100% cotton shirt and tried this on a test film first. I was a bit apprehensive as it's 'rougher' than the lens cloth but was much better. Using the lens cloth was a mistake, I was just adding bits of fibre to the film especially when the cloth caught on the sprocket holes.
