mr8mm wrote:Most of my home movies are S8 sound. How could sound be captured with this unit?
You can't. We have no intention at this point of producing a sound unit at this time but we'll see how sales go and what the demand is. Price point is key and sound units are expensive to make.

Also, the term Retro8 is used by Tak Kohyama when referring to his Retro Enterprise company. When I saw this term, I thought this might have been made in collaboration with Tak Kohyama .
Yes, "Retro" and variations have been and are in use for everything from footwear to nostalgia websites to LCD displays. We will be producing a Retro-16 and a Retro-9.5 as well as an eventual Retro-35.
peaceman wrote:Oh, are you planning to provide a "full size uncompressed" demo footage (or single frames) from this unit?
Possibly. The exported numbered image sequence is made up of JPEGs so they are hardly uncompressed but still look pretty good. Again, for the target market, they want simplicity.
Hi this really looks good , and not bad for the price !,only thing importing to europe tax would be high .
Do you have a dealer for Europe or someone that can handle retro 8 over here ?

Great minds think alike! "RetroScope" was actually one of the names I considered for this unit!

Yeah, I figured, anyone not shooting in wide screen , could use this in the title sequence as a tongue in cheek type description: Filimed in RetroScope

And of course this is already mentioned four or five posts above mine... so I retract my question.
hirudin wrote:What's the format of the images that you can write to disk? JPEG? what bit-depth and what format are the images? What's the average size of each file?
I get my current transfer work done in sequential jpeg and it's really useful, but it's tens of thousands of images per roll
Well i've been hoping for a machine like this to come along for the last 10 years, and I just ordered mine!!! Soooo excited!!! Now I can transfer all of the footage of my 2 yr old daughter that I have shot and continue to shoot... but with this user friendly device, i can do it while she is bouncing off the walls... as opposed to setting up my WP after she goes to bed, when i'm too exausted to do so. Needless to say, I have a lot of catching up to do on transfers!

I'll post some Vimeo samples when the time comes. i have a dozen rolls of 100D im sending off for processing tomorrow to start off with, and a ton of older stuff that needs transferring. Also plan to try and work with the V3 films eventually.

If someone has alot of sound film, I'd suggest just buying a sound projector and recording the sound separately then just sync it up later.
I love that old Super 8 audio. It soundsmore retro than the film looks retro.
Might be a little tricky but would save a ton of money.
V3 50D for regular 8mm is a great idea but how do we convince Kodak to produce this film stock. Kodak is impossible. They are absolutely opposed to a new catalog item. Sales would not be high enough to justify an expensive film option for small home movie cameras.
