All Negative: Missing Link

Post by Tscan »

Im really going to miss 100D in S8 and 16mm! But I'm happy the format is still going and getting V3 50D in S8. I have shot V2 50D in S8 and it's some of the best looking S8 i have seen. The V3 200T is incredible too. I would love to shoot it as much as I would shoot reversal, but there's no way I can shoot more than 8 rolls a year with Telecine costs the way they are. In this day and age, i don't think a consumer grade home scanner that loads film reels into a PC would be that hard to make. They had them for still film, why not amature MP? Amature video and music production has boomed thanks to new technology that bypasses expensive studios. S8 and 16mm could have a great new life if someone could fill the missing link! I think we should start a petition to pitch. It would also come in handy for mass amounts of old movie film sitting in most closets and atticks. That service Kodak tried to start was a flop from the start. Just give us a freakin device already!

Is it possible for a real time transfer to go directly to hard drive or does it have to be frame by frame?

Frame by frame for sure. Even if it's 1fps, just let it run and load... Something basic that just inverts the image properly with a few initial exposure and color adjusments. The rest can be handled well in most NLE's

Tobin do a little transfer machine that is pretty cheap. You no doubt know about that.
So what is the difference between that and the type of device you are suggesting?

Am I reading this thread wrong? I read it as ¨it would be good if there was an easy way to make an amateur machine for transferring negative film to hard drive and then inverting it to produce positive. Either in real time or frame by frame¨
If that IS what it says, then there are many hundreds of us out here who have done this..... for pennies compared with the commercially produced machines, both in ¨real time¨ and ¨frame by frame¨.

If that is NOT what it says, put this post down my age and the fact that the temperature here in Brazil is 37 degrees and I am out of my comfort zone!
