rewinding super 8mm

I have just been watching a docu about the magical mystery tour by the Beatles and Paul McCartney has just stated that he filmed a gendarme on traffic duties then rewound the whole film and filmed the sequence again with just the traffic. I wonder if he meant standard 8mm film.

My guess, 16mm. It wasn't like they were on a budget.

If you look at the fourth paragraph down, he talks about you being unable to rewind super 8
so I think in that documentary even though is saying super 8 he probably meant standard 8.
