From Pro-8. Say what you like about them, they're getting it out there! I've been hoping for years that Lomography would find a super8 option but now I wonder if they're either waiting to see how pro8 does, or letting them worry about s8 and focusing on more still cameras.
Anyway -- the point is, today, you can buy a very expensive super 8 camera and get (expensive-but-not-totally-insane) film w/processing and scanning included ANYWHERE. There must be a feeling that this is desirable, so this is cool, I think.

Re: Urban outfitters selling super 8 camera and film
This is an insanely kind of clunky idea to popularize Super 8 and I hope it becomes a wild success amongst hipsters. Talk about the audacity to mark up a 30 year old camera to $395 US! What is this an all plastic Canon 310XL?
I just checked the Pro8mm site. It is and they sell it for a $100 bucks cheaper! http://www.pro8mm.com/Merchant5/merchan ... ry_Code=S8
This is crazy stuff.

Not only that... did you see the carts are $88!!!! For 50ft of pro8 500 color neg?! that better include processing and transfer!
Any way you slice it, an astounding markup... if anything I think this hurts the medium; I mean, who is going to think "Surely there's a cheaper way to do this! I'll do some research..."

It's probably Pro8mm's 1 cart package that includes film, processing & SD transfer for $78. Guess they added $10 so Urban Outfitters could make some money.
310xl's go for about $40 normally.

Of course I didn't read the initial post correctly... with processing and transfer it makes is convenient and with that the price seems high but not insane. Unrelated, I went into a local store to pick up some of the last 100D, and when I asked the price the attendant said:
"Yep! $29 for all two and a half minutes of it. Enjoy"

That seems to be the hardest thing to overcome for people that are used to cheap camcorders that they let run for 2 hours and record nothing.hirudin wrote:"Yep! $29 for all two and a half minutes of it. Enjoy"
I would have told him I'd put my 2.5 minutes of film up against your 2.5 hours of video any day.
I save hours and hours reviewing footage during editing because I actually thought about what I shot vs. letting it run and hoping to catch something.

Plus what a horse's ass to make a comment like that. First off, it's rude, and second, it's beside the point. My honda accord gets better milage than a '57 chevy, but you don't hear anyone talking about the '57s milage, do you?hirudin wrote:"Yep! $29 for all two and a half minutes of it. Enjoy"

The link says the product is no longer available.
I may sound stupid, but I hide it well.

Re: Urban outfitters selling super 8 camera and film
I stopped by a store and it was no where to be found. I'm sure that Pro8mm probably scammed them and said that there were thousands available when they probably only had like 50. There's no way Pro8mm could produce enough reconditioned cameras for a big retailer like Urban Outfitters to sell them. Hipsters that frequent that shop would probably pick them up like crazy just to be the cool guy at the party.
