eumig 880 pma advice please
HI, can anyone tell me about the eumig 880 pma , If it has exposure compensation, (for the newer speeds) and is the time exposure automated. looking at buying one and wondered how good or reliable they are. cant seem to find much on them on the web. Thanks, Ian
Re: eumig 880 pma advice please
Hi Ian,
I have a 860. Which is the same camera with a smaller zoom range.
The exposure is manual, auto and +1 correction. The camera only reads 40/160.
The timed exposure is automatic, meaning that the time the shutter is open for is set automatically by the camera. But the camera assumes that the aperture is set to f1.8 (fully open). So you can compensate by closing the iris down.
Also the timed exposure is not metered TTL, it uses a separate exposure window/lens under the main camera lens to take the light reading.
So you can also compensate here by placing a filter/gel over either the camera lens or the metering lens.
It is only the long exposure that is non-TTL, all other exposure is TTL.
The Lens is good and sharp. I worked on a two camera shoot with the Eumig 860 and a Canon 1014 XL-S both shooting 200t and couldn't see any difference. A few shoots were also taken with a Sankyo EM 40 XL and the difference between that and the Canon an Eumig was huge. The Sankyo was a lot softer with a lot less contrast.
Hope this helps you out,
Chris

I got two 800-series cameras on flee markets and you have to look closely before you buy one of them. It was already described before on this forum that the inside metal body tends to "corrode" - a white powdery substance appears on the surface. An easy way to find out how bad it is with the camera you are looking at is to press the notch reader for the film sensitivity (red little button) in - if it doesn't move freely it is a bad sign.
With one of the two cameras the TTL CdS cell is not functional anymore, the one for the long time exposure still lives.
I filmed a bonfire last year with the long time exposure automatic (filling a certain length of film) and got really great results - it's fun.
I hope that helped you a little bit, I mean you won't lose very much as they mostly do go really cheap.

Well it's been a while, got a eumig 880 , as new but, light meter is slow and sticky as well as
Noisy, single frame does about 10 frames at a time instead of the one. In short the motor
works fine but speeds are erratic and light meter slow and sticky, any suggestions, thanks

Followed these instructions http://super8wiki.com/index.php/Eumig_8 ... isassemble everything in the
Moving parts department is perfect now, but, in auto mode the iris closes down in darkness rather than opens. Any ideas as to what I have done, may have reversed polarity some where but not sure what port does what.
Any assistance appreciated, thanks, Ian
