Kaiser vintage video lump

Post by kontrabass888 »

I bought 2 vintage Kaiser halogen video lumps on ebay, they are Typ 3049 and typ 3085.
It is written on the back that the maximum burn time is 5 min, I would like to know why it is so short burn time? is it possible to keep it turned on longer?

Hi,

those halogen lamps get pretty hot. Running them longer than stated in the instructions might cause them to melt/burn/whatever.
However those five minutes are very short. All of my 1KW halogen lamps are allowed to burn for fifteen minutes.

Ooopppsss... it's only ten minutes.

Adding a fan might help (as e.g. the Kaiser "videolight 6" hasn't got any time-limits. s. http://www.kaiser-fototechnik.de/en/pro ... p?nr=93304 ). However I'm not sure how much they'll help.

The film lamps with fan can be had at Euro 5-10. Or less. Why bother with fiddling.
The real costs lies in the bulbs and energy.

Or get a 500 watt construction-site lamp from a construction-material market.
These cost little, can be on for hours and often have tripods or support supplied with them.
Kind regards,

they use the same types of halogen tubes. So the coulor cannot be off much.

Nowadays people don't care that much about a light colurcast as everyhing seems to get a polish digitally.

Is constructing halogen lamp with build in fans? if they use the same type of bulb, why they could be turned on for hours and "video" halogen couldn't?

Because the construction lamps have a metal housing. And ask the seller. Do you think construction lamps can be on only for 5 or 15 minutes?

Please get yourself a LED lamp. Also from the construction market.
It costs a bit more still but it is much cheaper then in a photogear shop.

Or use eBay and get one from China directly. Really nice and cheap.

I saw some LED working lamp on ebay, but I didn't find a model which is both powerful and cheap.
But I found a Chinese photo lamp call redhead, with 800w halogen lamp, metal housing, about 40 GBP free shipping.
I am thinking that buy this redhead and replace the 800w bulb with 1000w bulb which is from my Kaiser lamp.
I am just afraid to break the old bulb, because I have read form some forum that this type of bulb is very easy to be broken.

How much do you need and why would anybody put 1000 in a 800 holder?
That is asking for trouble.

These horseshoe bulbs or long tubes are easy to get and don't cost that much.
Their lifespan isn't too long either..

Good luck

I have also found a 150w out put saving energy bulb with E27 mount and day light balanced, it will equipped as 700-800w bulb.
But all my lamps are written max. 100w. Does this saving energy bulb fit to the normal home lamp?
