Blackmagic acquired the assets of Cintel in July which is a respected manufacturer of film scanning equipment.

Seems like a big headache for Blackmagic, unless they got the company really really cheap (which the probably did.)
That equipment is crazy expensive to support and maintain. If they use some of the engineers to develop an affordable, reliable HD scanner then great. If they just hold on to it and have to support the old products that could be painful.
I know those guys love film and their DaVinci folks REALLY love film so hopefully it's a good sign.
