Beaulieu 4008 - cloudy image?

Post by Scotness »

Hi guys - continuing on with my refurbishment of by 4008 - the next thing that concerns me is the image through the viewfinder seems cloudy.

The lense is crystal clear so the problem isn't there - so it's probably the internal filter or the viewfinder itself.

The viewfinder does look cloudy itself from the outside -- so does anyone know how to remove and clean that - I notice there are two screws directly under it - if I remove the left hand one the side plate almost comes off - what else do I have to remove to get it off totally? I couldn't find another screw to do that?

Also if I do take out the filter what's the best way to access that?

Thanks if anyone can help

Scot

The cloudiness is often caused by a thin film that deposits itself on many of the internal elements of the viewfinder system. You might have to take the whole thing apart to successfully clean everything. This might be a job left to a specialist.

Nevertheless, if you want to remove the left side cover anyway, it's easy. Remove the groundglass control knob. You will see a retaining ring that has to removed with a spanner. You can carefully use some pointy pliers to do this. The cover should come off.
