Workprinter XP new setup using SSD

Post by burchis11 »

I am curious to know if anyone has captured to a Solid State Drive (SSD) with a Workprinter XP?

As long as it is an internal drive off the motherboard and not an external USB drive or Firewire drive, it will work just fine. No raid is necessary.

Thanks Roger for your help. Are there any special settings I should make to the SSD to ensure full stop-motion capture using my Workprinter-XP?

Speaking of, is there a HD camera out there with a non rolling shutter that I can get for my WP?

Nope, no non-rolling shutter cameras that I know of. Maybe you could start a new thread with your question.

A rolling shutter camera shouldn't be an issue with an XP, as far as I can tell. The exposed film frame has already frozen any real life movement that might have otherwise caused an issue due to a rolling shutter.

The XP capture software is syncronised to the projector, extracting the correct frame from an otherwise continuous video stream from the camera. I don't know exactly how the XP film frame advance works (I don't have one) but those video frames where the camera might have otherwise caught a film frame being advanced, or caught nothing, or caught something in between, wouldn't get extracted from the camera video stream.

Roger will no doubt know more.

A rolling shutter isn't a problem but you would want to raise the shutter speed up to about 1/500th of a second to get around the latency of the scan as it travels from top to bottom. Not 100% necessary but makes it much easier to set the timing disc on the WorkPrinter.
