a couple of screen grabs from my current project...

Post by hirudin »

Hi all,

Here are a couple of screen grabs from a mini-documentary on underwater hockey I'm currently in production on, shot completely in regular8. I chose to shoot in regular8 because I wanted to give it the feel of a 70's home movie... a feeling of familiarity and warmth. Plus the couple of festivals I want to submit it to are usually all HD films from people with $15,000 cameras & housings; I wanted to present something completely different.

Very exciting to see some images come back... I should be able to start editing this week.

Thanks! It's a shortie... just 5 minutes.

Yeah, looks great!
I'm sure it will stand out -- it seems like an interesting topic, is short enough not to wear out its welcome (I've heard that 5-10 minutes is idea for programmers to slot in to festival lineups)
And you're right, shorts are dominated by samey-looking DV shoots. I had a tri-x Super 8 short film on the festival circuit last year and everyone went "oh!" when they saw it was actually shot on film.
If you wanna get your painting in the gallery, might as well use oils and act like you care, right?

Perfect length. I myslef am working on a super 8 documentary that will be 5 minutes in length.

How will you be presenting the image? Will you present it with the sprocket holes, or do you intend to crop?

I agree, if you are going to use the legend "A Film By..." you are not really being honest unless it is shot on film. I guess " A video by... " Or " An Electronic Capture by..." have the same ring about them.
