Talking about videotape comeback ... It would have been nice if this format had made it:

Re: Video tape comeback (well kind of...)
I have about 4 or 5 Commodore 64s and an Amiga 500 at home (in boxes). I have tons of disks and extra equipment. I used to be really active on the C64 demoscene 20 years ago. I was a graphician and a member of the Norwegian demogroup SHAPE (Surpreme Headquarters Allied Programmers Europe).
I plan to hook up a C64 again soon. I listen to SID music once in a while at my office.
And for those who are interested, here are some of my gfx work:

and here are more info about SHAPE:

Re: Video tape comeback (well kind of...)
and speaking of sound formats that should have made it, there was the ELcassette with 1/4" tape that rivaled reel-to-reel but didn't even really catch on in the pro or broadcast market so, dud. now those machines go for a fortune in ebayland. some company in Finland bought all remaining Sony stock when they scuttled the concept. thats a real amazing story in itself. 8O
Forward, into the past.

once upon the time- in the west....eh.....
allthough audio...Digital Compact Cassette
interesting reading...... da pureas were backwards compatible to the old analog Compact Cassette despite having a 9 track head for digital rec/play

partly mentioned here is also the Mini Disc which i bought a special player/recorder version of which had a SCSI interface to team up with a MAC and some PCs modified to SCSI interface. my intention was primarily data backup but also record music from the MAC. da ding was neatly portable.

and then came the DAT which I also used at a backup for zoom tiem ... also SCSI interfaced recodo/perua....
gone, gone, gone......
but, I also have a Sony ES-V 800 8mm VCR which apart from being almost semi-pro editing capable also could record/play 32 kHz music on 6 stereo tracks. all my Sony 8mm/Hi/DV gear still works. My PRO STUDIO VHS VCR broke many years ago...
