Substitute Batteries for Canon 814 Super 8

Post by BrentPowers »

Befofre I knew what I was getting into, I bought a Canon 814 Autozoom camera. Now I see that I need mercury batteries which have been banned for some while now. The one I need in particular is the 1.3v #625. Any suggestions? Or should I just run out and get an exposure meter?

Thanks in advance for any help offered,

Your best replacement is Wein Cell Air batteries. They don't last as long but they will give you the correct voltage.

Or 3 pack: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6 ... c_Air.html

They work great. Buy a few and don't remove the little rubber cover until you need to use it; I was told that they start loosing their charge as soon as you remove the rubber cover due to a chemical reaction. Have no idea if that is true but seems logical.

Great camera, built like a tank.

Yes, I used a Canon Super 8 when I was studying. I don't even remember the model but it served me well during the time I was making my little underground films back then. I've started making video flicks, which is unbelievably cheap, quick, and with results for which I'd have had to lay out hundreds of US dollars when I was learning. I have made little flicks in a week, effects, color correction, etc., for nothing. Even so, I want the option of film. There is still that magic that you can't get with digital, no matter how you "antique" your material with settings like "old film", "grain", etc. I'm looking forward to getting started again. Just sent for some batteries from that website you directed me to. I should me up and running by next week. Thanks much to you chappies!
