Eumig P8

Post by Tommy »

The claw in my projector has receded inward, and I want to adjust the claw so that it will engage the film again. If you remove the back cover of this projector there appears to be a silver shield covering the entire drive shaft...has anyone ever removed this? My concern seems that it appears to also hold together gears in alignment and seems like it will be a nightmare to put back in (maybe special tools are required in servicing)....otherwise, I see no other way to get to the intermittent claw. Eumig P8 silent (1961).

The Eumig P 8 has Bell & Howell mechanics. The claw is pushed forward on every third stroke. By turning the 1-1 shaft at the rear you’ll check that. If the claw doesn’t come out any more it might be bent or dirt laden or something. You can take the drive unit out by removing two screws if I remember correctly. Nothing will fall apart. Just don’t lose the washers under the screws.

The drive unit has oil holes. The little felt rings on the claw slide bar must be oily. Oil also the cog wheels’ axles but keep the plastic groove rings clean on which the drive belt runs, actually a cheap O ring. Its dimensions are 3 × 65 mm.

Clean that projector with a tooth brush. Be aware of one important if not dangerous point: There is little to almost no insulation between the main switch and the housing. To access this you’ll have to dismantle everything. I always insert a piece of blank PET film there, big enough to stay in place.

Thank you for your input. When I have time again, I will attempt an operation.
