16mm film cost?

Post by Tommy »

How much does it cost to shoot 100ft of 16mm film with processing? Neg & Reversal about the same? I assume some labs offer video transfer as well? Thanks for any information.

In the U.S. new a new negative 100' reel from Kodak would be $45. Processing is about about 15 cents per foot. So to shoot one roll of negative and process it you're talking $60 + shipping. That's 3.5 minutes.

PLUS, transfer to video is another major cost.

Fuji is a little less on the cost of film (same processing) but harder to get hold of in the U.S.

Processing at AlphaCine (they do a wide range of stock types):

I shoot Kodak 100D Reversal exclusively, buying the film directly from Kodak and sending all processing to Dwayne's Photo in Parsons Kansas. Roll + Processing + Shipping (incl. lab both ways) costs about $75 per roll. A roll runs 2:45 at 24fps.

I haven't had any of my films transferred yet, so I can't comment on costs for that.
