After a cable that resembles a VGA type
I'm looking around for a cable that closely resembles a VGA computer monitor cable except that it has two rows of pins - four pins below and five pins on top. You can see the socket (for this cable) on stand-alone copy cameras like the Sony DXC-950 etc. Just wondering what these type of cables are called? With the camera controls, you can configure this cable to output a variety of different video signals like Y/C etc. If I was going to go with the Y/C option, then I would need a cable with the VGA-lookalike thing on one end and an Svideo socket on the other end.

Sounds like a 9 pin D-Type (DB9) most often used for RS232 data communications.
Early Hercules monochrome display adapters used one, but doubt the cable you are talking about shares the same connections:
1. ground
2. shield
3. n/c
4. n/c
5. n/c
6. + intensity
7. + video
8. + horizontal
9. - vertical

Hmmm...could be the one. Here's an ebay auction which features a DXC-950. One of the photos shows the back of the camera which features the socket which is labelled 'RGB/Sync.'

9 pin Dsub seems to look like it. I think that's what RCBASHER means. They seem to be called many things :?

Ah thanks to both of you. Ive tried looking online for 9 pin D sub to svideo cables but they seem to be an extremely rare thing.
By the way, I'm also curious about the 'video out' connector (also shown) which I guess is a BNC type which outputs composite video. However, the pin looks extremely thin. The pins (as well as holes) normally utilised in RCA composite set ups (red, white, yellow etc) are generally thicker, or I should say stubbier.

Yes, it is called a BNC connector and usually comes in two types, 50 ohnm and 75 ohm. The subtle difference between the two being the centre pin is a slightly different diameter...but can't remember which is which now! Anyway, normally 75 ohm will be used for video, 50 ohm will be used on things like oscilloscope probes, RF, etc.

does you mean the rs-232 plug/cable that looks like a vga cable with only 2 rows of m or f connector.
I can get you one for a roll of film or a small fee. they are used on some electronics to control it via a computer but few companies do this. its being phased out by cat 5 or 6 cable.
