Would this work with a work printer?

Post by Scotness »

To Roger or anyone who has one -- if I was to get this workprinter (or any one really)

http://www.moviestuff.tv/wp_16.html

and aim an HD video camera at the condensor lense/film plane

and just shoot it in real time and then import the footage and write a script (in avisynth I suppose) to go through and remove all the duplicate frames -- would it work? What would the quality be like?

The advantage is you would be capturing a live HD stream with out doing frame grabs and shutter exposures -- and for me at least I could use the camera I already have -- you could also automate every stage.

The disadvantage is extra time and temp file sizes.

Anyway any thoughts?

The reason is It's Brisbane Tonight Wow is just about through the final audio mixdown and we're talking to distributors now -- I'm about a third of a way into shooting my next feature Human Interface Parser -- and so I'm just throwing around ideas for the one after that - and I'm thinking of a gritty thing shot on 16mm Tri-X reversal, and doing my own transfer would cost about as much as getting it done in a shop somewhere.

Thanks for any input

Scot

Yes, it can be done. Search for John Meyer at the Doom9 forum. He has made an Avisynth script for this purpose. His results are exellent!

I have an HD setup with a Workprinter XP. I use the Velocity Box and have a black magic card used to run a full HDMI stream from the camera into the PC.

That is more or less how the Velocity Box and Velocity Software work. You capture in a streaming mode and the Velocity Box flags the stationary frames during capture. The Velocity or Velocity-HD software then uses those flags to harvest only the stationary frames to reconstitute your frame by frame AVI.
