Problem with a canon 1014 xl-s

Post by Tweenkle »

Hi everybody.
I'm a newbie in the super 8 scene.
I just bought a Canon 1014 xl-s and I'm testing it.
I put new alkaline batteries. Everything seems to work properly except the zoom.
When using the T button, the zoom rotates (almost) properly.
But when I then use the W button, the motor still works but the zoom moves very slowly and stop in mid-course.
Where does that come from ? What can I do ?
Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the zoom mechanism itself is dry and needs lubrication. Remember, it was made between 1979 and 1982. Switch the power zoom to manual; if the manual zooming is also sticky, you have your answer. Camera will need service.

Thank you Jean-Louis.
When in manual mode (m), the zoom rotates smoothly.
It sounds like the batteries were too weak, but they are new (and the tester goes to the right).

Do you have another explanation ?

Anyway, could I lubrificate the zoom easily ?

Thanks.

Then the problem would need further investigation. This is not a DIY repair unless you are very skilled.
Personally, I would just stick to manual zooming if it's smooth.
