Thanks for the link Andre! I have been a fan of Saul Bass for many years. Back around 1980 I would borrow from the Dearborn library a 16mm print of a documentary film on his title work. I can't remember the title but I am pretty sure
it is not Why Man Creates. Great title sequences are kind of a lost art.

Interesting but actually years way back some Adobe Tools i can not remember the name of right now would make those samples quite easy to produce - in hands of a dedicated person.

to evaluate film titles shot on film intended for projection - i shot titles generated in the computer off a computer screen some soon 10 years ago when i experimented with outdated K40 sound film shooting titles off the screen of my MAC Book. generating the background in the adobe tools and adding text there as animation or film clip or in a NLE system offers unlimited options for free.

here is some samples from my experimental work.

fairly easy and fairly good for the purpose. Adding all sorts of background or themes + suitable text would be a piece of cake. this sample was shot on outdated K40 originally planned for titles of my movies for projection but at this time it is re-transferred from Super 8 film back to digital.

Filming a computer screen indeed saves a lot of work/time (and artwork skills :) ) which may work for S8. Modern screens have so much resolution that it would never show on a projected screen.

For 70mm projection copies something more was needed. The most important is of course the graphics design, creating the cells for the animated titles needed a budget. Which likely wasn't really a problem for feature films of yesteryear. The shooting budget must have been a few magnitudes higher :)

i see you dont quite get it.......

her eis a glimpse of the Adobe IIllustrator......
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/illustrator-c ... ture-tour/
this shows nothing of its real capacity, nevertheless it is capable of making movie intros in a way no artist can do the analog way mixing digital. maths and analog imagery.
i tested out this in the mid 90s or so on my MAC Quadra 840. the MAC could create digital images 3 times the resolution/size of current HD video. it would take a looong time to create even 1 frame but it would create imagery beyond believ and the imagery coyld be transferred to S8 or any other film format frame by frame either off screen or using digital film printers..
today it should be no problem to top that.

at that time one could get the Adobe Auditon (not the sound SW which came later) bundle including Premiere and Photoshop. live film could be exported from Premiere to PS as film strips. i PS corrections in just about any detail in live images could be automated frame by frame by key combinations.

too bad these features is not available today.
