Regarding Super 8mm Ektachrome 100D availability

Post by enzed »

My apologies if this has been covered before, I've tried searching both on this board and on the web in general without any conclusive info, I thank you all for any info you can give me....

I live down in NZ and over the last couple of days have been devouring info on Super8. My grandfather has worked with every type of film over the years and while I was doing some research for him I came across film stocks for Super8 and processing facilities in Australasia and on the spur of the moment decided I would love to try out Super8. I'm in the process of getting a Super8 camera and was looking at where to get film.

I was originally really excited when it appeared as though Ektachrome 100D colour reversal cartridges were going to be readily available (although expensive in NZ) but I just noticed on the Kodak website that it is listed under their July discontinued list.
Is this correct and Ektachrome 100d is not going to be available for much longer?
If so is anything being released to take its place?
If not, then is their an alternative Super8 colour reversal stock available (if so what and where can I source it - do FujiFilm do one)?

Dare I ask, is the Super-8 Tri-X B&W reversal stock still current?

Thanks very much for any info you can share. (And any hints of where to purchase film stock for a reasonable price would also be much appreciated)

I don't know which Kodak website you visited, but Ektachrome 100D is fully available in Super8. In fact it is the same filmstock as Ektachrome 100VS used in 135 still photo. Ektachrome 64T vas discontinued last year and replaced by the new 100D as the common Super8 reversal colour film.

Kodak is not the only one making Super8 reversal film:

Read the description. This 7285 product is a control product used in processing 7285 not S8 cartridge film. No reason to PANIC! yet.

Shameless plug.
NZ can buy S8 from International film <www.zerelda.com/internationalfilm>

There might be some handy info here:

http://mishkin.yolasite.com/australasian-super8.php

There are ways around the high cost of film. :D

I checked the mishkin link and noticed that there was a statement that kodak has discontinued production of TRI-X. To the best of my knowledge and this also comes as a surprise to the staff at Kodak Hollywood, Kodak has not discontinued production of TRI-X. Where did this info come from?

Maybe someone confused Tri-X with Plus-X? Or the "old Tri-X" (7278) with the "new Tri-X" (7266)? Or someone mixed up the Super8-Tri-X with some of the other Tri-X, e.g. the "TRI-X 400 Film / 135" is only available with 36 exp. as the "24 exp."-version has been discontinued...
This space was left intenionally blank.

In addition the site captions an Ektachrome 160 still with the fact that it uses E6 processing. Site does not mention which version of Ektachrome 160 the still comes from (Type A or G), but I thought E25 and E26 are used to process Ektachrome 160. Does anyone know if Ektachrome 160 Type A can be processed with E6?
I have 20 Ektachrome 160 Type A Sound cartridges in deep freeze.

E160 can processed with E6 chemistry, but there is a black backing that must be removed during the processing.
