I recently visited John Schwind's web page and saw he sells Cinechrome 50D in regular 8mm. What is this film exactly, and who makes it? Also can it be processed at a place like Dwayne's? I would assume this is a very fine grain film, with good contrasts?
It seems you don't hear much about it. I've been using 100D for sometime now and love the film, but would like to try something new just for the fun of it.

I also noticed that Spectra sells a version of this film. Would this be the same as the film John is offering? Spectra says it is not Velvia, that is kind of throwing me off. Can't imagine what else it could be?

Cinechrome 50D is Agfa RSX II film. The same as Kahl UT 18

Velvia is wonderful itself, but the problem is that it tends to have jitter problems running in many cameras because de film is too thick. It is originally a still film.Ugo wrote:Quality of this Agfa stock? grain? colors? Cinechrome versus Velvia... who is the winner?

100d is much sharper and less grainy than cinechrome 50d, velvia is much sharper than 100d. 100d is the best for running smoothly through 8mm camera's. Velvia in an H8 transports ok too, though a friend advises velvia through the likes of a B8 and other non sprocket driven models tends to jam.

Cinechrome 50D is KAHL UT18 or Agfa RSK. Kahl will not tell exactly what UT 18 is but the best guess is the Agfa stock. Cinechrome 50D is offered because many 8mm cameras can not use the ASA 100 film without greatly over exposing in bright sunlight. Also some cameras have automatic exposure systems that only allow up to ASA 40 and 50 is close enough. If you have a camera with a variable shutter, f/22 lens or a neutral density filter than you would probably be satisfied with Cinechrome 100D 7285. However there are those that actually like 50D over 100D or so I am told. Currently Cinechrome 50D is out of stock. So, don't order. ---J.S.
