I had a snoop around, and, lo and behold, Filmshooting is the best place that I could find info. Super8man, the Sultan of Celuliod, supplied this link to an A-7 manual. Other notable posts were info from people who are still active. My gut tells me that this type of camera is perfect for hot rodding, as many people here appear to have done. I think that hot rodding is a good analogy, because the rodder's like simple cars to work on ( think model t vs. mercedes)

Technically,The case of the cameras appears to be just that, just like an old watch. I'm guessing, but the guts are probable build on a board, and the whole thing is dropped in, like a 4008 or a 2008. This is good, because it makes it likely that it is a series of independent components, as opposed to parts hung off a cast body. I think that parts would be easy to fab, but that there would still need to be some fabrication. I don't think that it would be as straight forward as an H8 for converting, but it might be cheaper in the end.

I think I'm going to get one to play with. For your project, if you are still interested, think that I would throw it out on the board under a new tiles, to find the people who really know about this stuff.

I stocked up on 3 of the Canon regular 8 camera with two removable lenses and yes, you can focus through the lens and then move your head and use the viewfinder to continue shooting...it's the best of the best, IMO. Now, if only I could resurrect my HD's that are unavailable at the moment to update my filmshooting website to get that camera back onto my website, we'd have a decent reference.

Wow!

It appears to be the Canon 8-T w/ two lens turret w/ up to 6x interchangeable lens, i.e 6.5, 13, 25, 38, 50, and 75mm. If these are D mounts I wonder if they are compatible with the Bolex H-8 D-Mount Switars?

I have three 8-T models... I also have the rare adapters that allow you to use the superior-bayonet mount of the Canon Cine lenses on the screwmount D-lens Bolex cameras. I guess Canon wanted Bolex owners to buy their lenses! hahaha... I have the 50mm, 36mm and 25mm lenses if I recall correctly...

Thanks. I have been aware of the Canon USA archives for some time. Regrettably their last 16mm camera design and product was never sold offshore. What a stunner. It apparently had an Arri mount and what is described as "Crystal control, servo film drive by a built-in micro-coreless motor (in combination with a registration pin) "

It was called the Systema Sound 16mm. I can see a bit of the 814/1014 XLS camera design influence.

25' double 8mm load, reflex viewing with french guillotine shutter so 100% of the light hits the film, all metal construction, rewind knob, exchangeable lenses (not sure what mount) , easy load with a metal gate and a pressure plate.
