Nostalgia. Nice view on a world which is no longer there. Although a few places may still look the same.
Even poor people seem to enjoy life when on Kodachrome

I guess that Kodachrome was much more expensive than B&W reversal or slides back in the 1940s: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 249AAWKbJL says: "color ... $3 -$5 a roll plus $4 for processing ... B&W was around dollar a roll in the USA for decent Kodak or Ilford film or 75c for cheaper imported brands plus around $2 for developing and printing"
