Problem with Speed Control Nizo 801

Post by RenFra »

Hi there,
I have a problem with the speed control of my Nizo 801 Macro. The problem is that the camera now only runs at its highest speed, i.e. 54 fps (I think from the sound of it). The speed knob has no effect on the speed. I have cleaned the potmeter that is connected with the knob, but this doen't help.
If you have experienced the same problem and have found a solution, could you please give me e a hint?

I repaired one once that had this problem and in this particular case, it needed a new motor. I don't have new spare parts so I had to salvage one off a junk camera.

Cheers,

Hello Jean-Louis

Thanks for your reply. As I have got a second Nizo 801 I have a spare motor. Is it difficult or tricky to build a motor in?

I don't understand what you mean by: "build a motor in"

That depends what you mean by difficult. For an experienced camera technician, it's a straightforward job.

I see. Did you do it yourself? Does there exist a kind of repair manual of the Nizo 801 or at least a lay out? I think I could be able to do it myself, but without a plan I don't dare te make a move.

I have been repairing cameras professionally for over 30 years now. This is my livelihood, so logically I cannot encourage you to fix your own camera but if you are intent on doing it yourself, here are a few hints: If you have two identical cameras, you can always check one against the other. Make a detailed diagram of where all the wires are connected to the circuit board and/or take many detailed close-up pictures of everything. Take notes of everything you do and in which order you did them.

Good luck!

Ah, now the picture is complete. Of course I would like you to do the job but I think it would be too costly as you live in Montreal. Repair costs will not be the problem but all the business on top of it (shipment, customs) are a serious bottleneck.
Thanks anyway for you advise!

For a minute, I thought you were in Newfoundland and Labrador. ;-)

Send it to Frank Bruinsma at Super8 Reversal Lab in The Hague. Either they service super8 cameras there or they will send it to there tech in Germany.

Hi,

the specialist for NIZO cameras is Mr. Kurt Schacherl in Olching (South Germany). He bought all the spare parts from braun when their Super8 business colapsed. Though Im not sure if he still has any Motors. Anyways, he can fix your NIZO for a reasonable Price if you provide the spare parts.

Hi Jan,

this also is quite useful information. I had spotted this site once, but didn't know the story of Nizo with the spare parts.

Thank you,
René
