Sorry to see you go to the dark side so soon, but heck, you had one heck of a long stretch with analogue and have left us with a great resource which I have used on many occasions!
I have not shot any digital footage of my family for ages. I almost exclusively use super 8 for that. Yes it is expensive, but I feel I am choosing my moments better when I have less footage to shoot and it costs more.
My digital video camera is a dust gatherer!
I shoot my professional work on super 8 whenever I can!
Going digital for all intents and purposes...

Re: Going digital for all intents and purposes...
The only digital camera I ever got was the Canon Optura 10 for MiniDV. And the only use I got of it was to shoot pictures for items I sell on eBay from time to time. I do not know how to think in terms of these cameras. Portable still means to me the Bolex C8LA with the Bolex anamorphot attached to a Dallmeyer or a Switar. I guess it depends on how you want to use the medium. As davidoe put it in a post earlier: if you are an artist, you keep different palettes. And for an artist there is no substitute for film - this is like painting with light.
You can definitely switch to digital, but keep an S8 or an R8 camera handy. You never know.

This: " Bolex anamorphot " is still my holy grail! Nice to hear you are using it. Good for you.
Sadly, my darn HTC Inspire smartphone is becoming my "handy" camera now...but that's not serious photography...unless you limit your resolution to facebook size.

The B8, C8, and D8LA and their variants. I love these cameras.
the bolex anamorphot for these cameras used to appear on eBay every once in a while. Have not seen them lately.
BUT, this is my promise to you in writing: If I ever get another one I am going to ask you for your address, and send it to you as a gift!
