There was a short story on 60 minutes on film preservation and the San Francisco Market street film. The film was a travelogue of sorts, shot, as it turn out, 1 week before the 1906 earthquake. I'm guessing the film was shot on nitrate and there are only 3 copies left and one copy was transferred to HD.
Worth a look.

That's great footage thanks for posting it - it's amazing how the cars weave in and out - and how people are on the right hand side of the road even at this stage. I wonder what the history is of what side of the road various countries drive on, and how it came to be.

Makes you understand why so many people hated the invention of the automobile. Loud, smokey, stinking things just went wherever they wanted. It's only one hundred years old and it's so incredibly different from modern times. I can't even imagine how odd it will be when people 500 years from now watch this film. It will probably be as if we were able to watch actual footage of hunter/gatherers. :lol:
