nizo 6080 focusing?

Post by orchis244 »

i know that focusing has been discussed in the forum before; however, when i set the eye piece on my nizo 6080... i zoom in the farthest ( longest focal length), set focusing ring to infinity, point it at a vertical object at leat 100 yards away, then i turn the eye piece SLIGHTLY, so the the object appears vertical and "unbroken" in the circle. when i say slightly turn, i mean its slightly....

now, when im shooting...... **EVERYTHING** seems to appear in focus through the rangefinder. im shooting approximately 10-15 feet from the actor. i try to focus on an edge, say the edge of their face or arm. i start spinning the focusing ring on the lens and spin it from say 3 feet right around to infinity and see **NO VISIBLE DIFFERENCE THROUGH THE RANGEFINDER.**

WHAT GIVES??? is there something wrong with the camera??

yes - basically small format film and all of video (exception is HD) has very deep DoF.

Plus remember

the higher the iris setting (or smaller it is) - 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6 etc the deeper the DoF will get

From Tele to Wide focal range will also increase DoF.

Since you where focusing on a subject that was only about 15ft and you are using a small format camera your DoF is very deep.
