I guess we should be thankful the seller didn't describe it as a video camera.

Hmm...I've never seen this model before - mustn't have been a big seller -- hang on I see the reason why --> as much as I applaud their film transport mechanism, and their use of seperate reels and ditching the cart - I still can't help but think there's going to be serious fogging issues once the film passes through the gate and onto the take up reel...

But does of course beg the point that a projector is alot like a camera in reverse - and in fact some of the earliest motion picture cameras did reverse out to be projectors as well --> I wonder if some bright spark will end up doing that with video cameras??

Hi,

the whole auction doesn't make sense as the photos show a projector, while the description mentions two different cameras (that shared the same manual)!?

http://www.super8data.com/database/came ... 133pxl.htm
(BTW: Super8data and Super8wiki claim that both cameras have been marketed in 1982/83, even though the description mentions 1978. )

Strange!

I have seen listings like that before, some lucky SOB may end up getting a great deal on a projector (or a camera) because it was listed wrong. At least it has a low starting price. Whoever bids on it is taking a gamble on what will actually be delivered.

What gets me is when they make a mistake like that and have an over inflated starting price. If they don't know what they are selling how do they know the value of it?

The seller tells me that it is a Chinon GL2000.
This is actually a dual gauge (not just Super 8 ). So you will get the illustrated projector, plus (presumably) the instruction manual for two Chinon Cameras!

If you do not know how to work a projector, then the best of luck doing it using the instructions!

Nikon has done it with a still camera at least. It might even project video if the camera shoots it.

But nothing can beat these two cameras which I just found on eBay which have to be the ultimate 8mm cameras. According to the sellers' descriptive titles, these cameras can accept both super 8 film and video8 tape. Puts Elmo's Trimatic camera to shame!

I actually have a GL2000. It's quite a find as there's a very easy and tool-less way to modify it so that you have a variable speed projector from about 3fps to about 32fps. You simply take off the cover and push down a little piece of metal that restricts the speed control dial so that you can then turn it nearly 360 degrees. Mine's worked well for 5 years with this modification.

Looks like one of those ebay links that I posted has been edited. Previously the title read 'Video 8 / vintage super 8' for a Sony Video 8 camera.

I did see another auction where a seller had included some video camera accessories with a super 8 camera, thinking that they might possibly be of use with the camera. Btw, these were electronic accessories, not optical accessories like filters etc.

There is real confusion between super 8 film and hi 8 video. I've tried explaining to some people a little younger than me (therefore from the video age) and some of them seem totally unable to grasp the concept of home film cameras.

so it never comes as a surprise to me when people refer to a super 8 camera they've found in their loft as a video camera or hi8 (or talk about super 8 video cams when they mean hi 8)

I recently contacted an ebay seller when he listed photo enlarger grain focusing aids as a slide viewers. He was selling a bunch of them that he bought used from a high school. I even sent him a link to BH Photo showing the exact same model - new and at less cost than the ones he was selling. He corrected the description, but left the same price.
