If it smells like feet or worse then it's probably horse hide glue breaking down. They also used this stuff in certain "plastics" back then and as it degrades it starts to REALLY stink. I have no idea how to get rid of it. I have experienced it on an old fishing reel handle and the decorative bezel on an old console radio.

I bet you're right. It's truly an organic smelling footy stench. I just keep the thing shut tight. It's too bad, because I like watching the 2-claw pulldown action. Very fluid. Just can't hold its loop.beamascope wrote:If it smells like feet or worse then it's probably horse hide glue breaking down. If it can't hold it's loop isn't that just an issue with the supply spool tension and or take up spool?

I think so, but that's controlled (I think) on this camera by a spring.beamascope wrote:If it can't hold it's loop isn't that just an issue with the supply spool tension and or take up spool?
That said I'm not sure -- I showed the camera to a guy years and years ago when it stopped working and that's what he thought.

Those old early Kodak cameras used fish oil for lube... stinks. I turned down buying one thirty years ago because I could not get past that smell and I doubt you will ever get it out of there...
