Bauer 209 xl super 8mm shutter button
Hello I am an aspiring small format film maker looking to do some water filming with a DIY water housing I am working on. I am interested in the bauer 209 xl because of it's nice features such as low light capability, 24fps and faster frame rates for slow motion, and it's super cheap used price, however, I noticed that it looks like the trigger for the shutter is on the front of the pistol grip? If this is the case this could be an issue for me since I will be just working with simple mechanical controls to zoom and start recording once inside the water housing. It looks like once the grip is folded forward the trigger for the shutter is not accessible very easily... would this be the point that I should rig the remote cable to be controlled from outside the housing? Example: drill a hole, place the remote cable through said hole, then seal it with silicon for water tightness? would this work or is the design of the camera going to limit my plans? Thanks in advance for any information on this matter.

I have the 207 which is similar. I believe once the handle is folded up then the remote has to be used as the button under the trigger is deactivated when the handle is rotated. So I'm guessing you're right about finding a way to attach the remote through your water housing.

Thanks for the info now I guess the only issue will be finding the remote cable.

Re: Bauer 209 xl super 8mm shutter button
I see a few "electromagnetic" remotes for sale on line which are rated for bauer cameras but since It's basically a 25mm TS connector can I not just wire up a simple switch and make my own remote control cable or does it require some amount of voltage to make it work? I am thinking it works via opening and closing the circuit on/off but I could be wrong, any ideas folks? Thanks

When I got my Bauer it didn't have a remote cable with it. I have an old VHS camcorder from the late 80s that has a simple wired remote. It nothing but a button you press. I plugged it in and it actually works perfectly. So if you come across a Panasonic Omni movie from about 1987 with all the accessories grab it!

nice, so I guess ithis confirms my idea that when the switch is in the on position it just completes the circuit and redirects power to the shutter as if you were pulling the trigger on the pistol grip. Thanks everyone I'm going to take a stab and soldering up my own connector with switch and see if it works and I'll update the thread as to if it was successful or not.
