Do cameras shoot bright or dim as the button cell drains?

Post by slashmaster »

I'm going to radio shack to try to find a couple of PX13 batteries for a Nikon super 8 8 X zoom. Looks like the cells are 1.3 volts so if I can't find something that voltage I'll have to run wires from batteries either 1.5 or 1.25. What would be the better thing to do?

Wein MRB625 Cell 1.35v Zinc-Air Battery. They don't last as long but work great.

Thanks BAC, Maybe I'll get that someday but I just discoverd the 1.55 volt battery and spare that come from my digital micrometer will fit but with lots of slop. I measured 3.02 volts from the 2 so I guess that isn't overpowering it too bad is it? The meter works partially works but it sticks very easily and I still have this red thing in the viewfinder which pops up when the cartridge ends or there isn't enough light. Is this likely stuck?

Your meter will be anywhere from 1/2 to 2 stops off. Since the difference varies with the light level, you can't directly compensate. That being said, it will work fine with negative film, as the film's latitude is more than enough to compensate. I would get the Weincells to try out, and if you really like the camera, consider buying two MR-9 adapters. They allow you to use cheap silver-oxide batteries while delivering the proper 2.7v to the meter.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Are those hearing aid batteries the right size? Playing with this camera now, I'm getting the idea overpowering the meter a little would make the film too dim?

Just put a little packing around the battery, and or a bit of foil at the contact if you see the contacts dont meet (or stretch the spring). might not need to. They are a little smaller but not much .
